Hi. I would like to edit my permalinks to a custom setup (and I know how to make that simple change on WordPress). However, the following message comes up when I try to make my change:

“If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.”

I am new to WordPress and unfamiliar with coding, so I don’t know how to make the necessary changes. I am using FatCow as a web host. Does any have straightforward, easy instructions? Thank you so much for the help!

Hi, just start a live chat with tech support and they can edit your .htaccess for you. They don’t allow people to edit the text themselves “for security reasons” but FatCow’s tech support is really pretty good.
