Creating Product Subcategories

Sorry for all the questions. I have read all the documentation and have done several searches but I can’t find an answer to this very simple question. How do I create a Product subcategory that will not show up on the front page categories column without hovering over the category you wish to visit?

So on my page, for example, I have Electronics, Jewelry and Women’s Fashions. I have a number of subcategories I wish to attach to Women’s Fashions without these subcategories showing up in this Main Category “box”. How do I do this?
