  • Its possible that one of your plugins is interfering with WooCommerce. Temporarily deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce. You should now see the product-type dropdown next to “Product Data”? Reactivate your plugins one-by-one and check to see which other plugin is causing the problem.

Looking at your screenshot it looks to me like that is the Product Data section of a Simple Product.
I suggest that you try changing the product type to Variable Product and the Variations tab will appear:

If the product is set to be a Variable product, and the tab is not visible, then @lorro is correct to suggest that it is a conflict.

The best way to determine if the issue is being caused by a theme and/or plugin is to do the following:

    1. Temporarily switch your theme back to the Storefront (https://www.woocommerce.com/storefront/) or TwentyNineteen (https://www.ads-software.com/themes/twentynineteen/) Theme.
    2. Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce.
    3. Test to see if the issue has been resolved.

If that resolves the issue, then one-by-one you can switch back your theme and re-enable your plugins, testing in between, until you find the one causing the conflict.

If doing this on your live site is not possible, can you create a duplicate site? We suggest using WP Staging (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-staging/) if your hosting provider does not offer a staging server as an option.

I hope that helps you to figure it out.

Thank you both for your very useful answers. Unfortunately I couldn’t see anything next to Product Data to set the product to Variable product. However, following both @mouli and @lorro I updated WordPress to the last version and it is now working. Thank you so much for your help! ??
