Creating Roster or Bio pages

So, I posted about this in the plugins page and this is what I posted:

I have seen a couple of old posts about this that have never been answered, so I know I’m really taking a leap here- but what I need is to try and find a way to manage bios or a roster of performers. Preferably one with a widget for a featured or random bios.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Here is my question, am I better off just trying to create custom post types and trying to find a way to organize the category posts into a coherent and easy to navigate list?
