• Does anyone know where I can start to look as to how to display the popular pages/structure in google search results?

E.g. try searching google for “ubuntu”. Notice the substructure in the results for https://www.ubuntu.com

    SEO land?

Make a google webmaster account, register your site, and you can do some tweaks there.

Google build the sub links below the results based on how they index your page. You cannot set them up. Ipstenu is right though, your best bet is to set up a Google Webmaster Tools account so you can have more control over how Google crawls and indexes your website.

You can kinda customize them via Webmasters Tools. You can, at least, say ‘No remove that one…’ under ‘Site configuration -> Sitelinks’
