Step 2 states: “Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a MySQL user who has all privileges for accessing and modifying it.”

How do I do this? I have webspace but have no idea what it means to create a database or a MySQL user. Where are the instructions?

Having searched through the instructions for help, I am looking at the Using CPanel page. How do I “Login to [my] website cpanel”? What is the control panel?

It depends on the server you want to run wordpress on. Check this with the people you get your webspace from, they should have some info on this on their website.

When you signed up for a hosting package for your domain – your host should have given you lots of info how to access your site’s “backend”: administration or control panel or whatever it is called.

Thank you. I made my way to the control panel (this is at Webstrikesolutions) and have ordered a MySQL database. More when I receive the instructions for using it.

Now I have created a MySQL database on Webstrikesolutions. But I cannot follow the rest of the instructions.

Currently there are three databases: one with my domain name, which has no tables, another called information_schema with 16 tables and a third called test, with 10 tables. MyPHP Admin version 2.7.0-pl1 is running.

The instructions ask me to click the Home icon, “then click Privileges. If a user relating to WordPress does not already exist in the list of users, create one:
    Click Add a new User.”

Unfortunately, there is no button for either operation. The screen shows two columns, one headed MySQL the other phpMyAdmin. Under the MySQL column, it shows:-
    Create new database:
    No Privileges
    Show MySQL runtime information
    Show MySQL system variables
    Show processes
    Character Sets and Collations
    Storage Engines
    Databases
    Export
    Import
    Log out

In the phpMyAdmin column there are:-
    Language :
    MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)
    MySQL connection collation:
    Theme / Style:
    phpMyAdmin documentation
    Official phpMyAdmin Homepage
    [ChangeLog] [CVS] [Lists]

Where do I go from here? NB Neither the words “Create database” nor “No Privileges” are not clickable; but there is an icon to the right which takes me to the syntax for Create Database.

In the end I gave up and asked Install4Free to get WordPress working. I am now up and crawling, but it would have been nice to learn what I missed. The documentation clearly defeated this one!
