Credit Card Input Fields Don’t Display Sometimes

It looks like you are experiencing an intermittent issue with the credit card input fields not displaying properly on the checkout page, along with an error related to WooCommerce Square, correct?

I have gone to your site and I am unable to replicate the issue as the Credit card fields display immediately (including when testing in incognito):

Since you are able to replicate this on your end immediately in Incognito, can you please share a screenshot of what you are seeing. If you do not already have a screenshot tool installed, Snipboard.io can be used to easily share screenshots.

Additionally, does this perhaps occur when adding specific products or product types to the cart, or does this occur with all products? Also, are you able to reproduce the error in various browsers? This may help us narrow down the possible cause.

Thank you for the quick response. You are correct in that the error is the disappearing credit card input fields.

Regarding getting the error to show, it’s really tough to replicate the issue if the fields are showing initially. It can work for a long time and then all of a sudden it will stop working and will not work for a long time. In many cases if I use Incognito it’ll error immediately, but not always. I can replicate this error in Chrome, FF, and Edge. I’ve cleared my cache, the server cache, and removed all caching plugins.

For testing I’ve been going to the homepage, scrolling down a little and then selecting the ULTRA ZOOM? product. Then I follow the purchasing process to get to the checkout page. It seems to be happening for any product I select but that’s one product I’ve been using to test regularly.

So I went to the site again to try and replicate the issue and this time I was able to replicate the issue for about a second (not even long enough to get a screenshot), where the credit card input fields are greyed out, but then they immediately appear without the need to refresh the page.??

I gather that things were working as expected previously and this issue recently surfaced, yes? If so, do you recall any changes/updates made to the site or server before you first notice this issue? (i.e. newly added plugins/themes, updated plugins/themes etc.)

In the meantime, can you please take a look at the support documentation below and confirm that your site meets all of these requirements and is configured correctly?

If this looks good, I’d like to have a better understanding of your sites current environment, as well as any errors being produced. Can you please head over to?WooCommerce → Status → Logs?and share a copy of any fatal error log found there.

Additionally, please share a copy of your sites System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce → Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you have this, please share the results with us here.

Just to clarify, the credit card fields always take a little bit of time to load before they appear. You will see that gray box with no credit card input fields until they are fully loaded. If the fields do load after an initial second or two, that’s working as intended. The problem is when the fields never load. That’s what happening to me an our customers. They go to the checkout page and the fields never load and all they see is the gray box permanently. It sounds like the field loaded for you, it just took a second to finish loading. That’s normal and has been this way since the beginning. If the fields never load then you are seeing the problem.

We noticed this issue late last week. As I mentioned I pulled a 30 day backup of the website and that is actually what you are using to test at the moment. This version of the website was working 30 days ago and now it’s having the same problem as the production website so it’s not from any WordPress or plugin updates. Even though the production website has been updated, this 30 day old backup version should still work. The production version of the website was working as far as we know until late last week.

The website does fulfill all the requirements you listed.

The fatal log report shows the errors I received when I was spinning this backup site back online. I deactivated those plugins. There are also log files for square as another drop down selection. Do you want that log file as well?

Pastebin website’s is down right now, so I was not able to check the SSR and the logs. Do you mind sharing it some other way? You can use GitHub or even paste it here if you wish.

You mentioned before you deactivated most plugins, but not all, right?

Since now you have a staging site, would it be possible for you to switch to the Storefront theme and deactivate all plugins but WooCommerce and Square and test if the issue persists so we can make sure this is not a theme or plugin conflict?

Hi, I have updated the staging website to use the Storefront theme and the only two plugins I have active is Woocommerce and the Square payment plugin. The issue is still happening. As I mentioned, however, the issue doesn’t always occur. Initially it didn’t work but when I reloaded the checkout page, it started working again and did so for 30 refreshes. Thanks for trying the conflict test and for sharing the info again.

I checked the logs and there are a few different issues. The one that might be interfering with the check out is:

• Memory Limit and PHP Execution Time: It seems that the fatal errors mention memory exhaustion and unsupported operand types. You might need to increase the PHP memory limit and execution time. Contact your hosting provider or access your server settings to adjust the PHP memory limit and execution time. Then try and see if the issue persists.

Please let us know if the issue persists, so we can keep investigating.

The logs also show errors with two plugins, which are not causing this issue, since you already tested, but it is good that you check these plugins when you can to avoid future issues. The plugins are WooThumbs Premium and Wordfence Plugin. You might want to reach out to their support and share the error logs so they can help you with this.

Hi, I appreciate the continue support. I mentioned previously that within the fatal errors log those errors were generated when I spun up the backup of the website on the server. The errors were generated by the rebuilding of the website. The plugins work just fine on their own and don’t have issues, but nonetheless I removed them anyway for testing.

Is the Memory Limit and PHP Execution Time being mentioned specifically as a problem for the Square plugin? Can we focus on how this plugin is being utilized by the server and if there is an issue specific with this plugin and if there are any errors with it. I’ve stripped down the website to just your plugin, the Storefront theme, and the Woocommerce plugin. All other plugins have been deactivated or deleted.

Could the server be blocking anything? We use WP Engine and I know they block sessions and we can define cache exclusions. What’s the next step?

Did you already have a chance to investigate further how it is performed, as it sounds like it is affecting the way the site functions, on restoring from a backup?

I went ahead with investigating this further, and the only seemingly related issue reported on GitHub is this. The issue reported there is on Square’s end.
