    Hi
we have been having problems all week with things and cannot get to the root cause.

All plugins are currently deactivated with the exception of WooCommerce, Elementor and WoodMart Core (a plugin for the theme)
Site is in maintenance just now.

When I change the status of an order eg pending to processing and then save it, it brings me to the PDF of the invoice – (usually it just stays on the order)

The layout is wrong, and it says critical error and refer to admin email.
    we don’t get an email
I go back to the order and save again and it appears to be ok

What can the problem be? for both the critical error and also no email

    thank you
    Amy

Hi @amyskea, thanks for reaching out! I had a look at your site and I can see only seed potatoes, no errors. Did you manage to resolve the issue since you posted, or does it only happen on the admin-side?

If the error happens only in the admin side of things, could you head over to WP Admin > WooCommerce > Status > Logs? Check if you have a log named fatal-errors, with a Data modified corresponding to when you last experienced the critical error. If you find one that matches the date, either copy and share it here, or if contains a lot of repeating errors, share an excerpt.

If you don’t have a log there, then it’s likely the error happened before WooCommerce could log it. In that case, it may have been recorded in your website’s error log. You should be able to access that log via your host’s management panel, or by contacting your host’s support for help.

Either way, share the the contents, and let see what it says. Hopefully it points us in the right direction.

Meanwhile, if you disable everything except for WooCommerce, and switch your theme to a standard theme like Storefront Theme, can you still recreate the error? If not, it might be worthwhile to re-enable things once-by-one, and test as you go. That might also reveal what introduces the error.

Let us know what you find. I look forward to your reply.

    Hi
    thanks for the reply.
We put the site back on line, as we thought out other problem was solved – I reactivated all the plugins for this.

The problem was only on the admin side when orders were being changed (eg on hold to processing) we have a custom order status plugin, I deactivated that, and still problems happened. But not every time, not every order, and so we are unclear where the problem is.

I can’t put it to maintenance without the theme – as it is built in, and I don’t want the public on the site if the plugins aren’t activated (we have bulk pricing etc)

It seems to be that the problem with changing order status is periodical, not every time and so we will keep watching out for this and get a screen shot if it happens again.

The fatal errors last week before I put it to maintenance areduplicate a lot, but not sure if connected:

    Now – slightly different
I made a change on an order and then saved it – immediately got a 400 – Bad Request
I am refreshing the site and nothing is happening. I can’t go back. I have cleared cache but nothing is happening.

    Hello amyskea,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand you’re encountering a 400 Bad Request error after making changes to an order and refreshing the site hasn’t helped.

To confirm, are you unable to access the /wp-admin page?
If so, I recommend enabling WP_DEBUG_LOG in your wp-config.php file to capture any errors.

You can follow this guide for more detailed steps:
    https://developer.www.ads-software.com/advanced-administration/debug/debug-wordpress/#wp_debug_log.

Let me know what errors appear in the log.

    Best regards.

hi Thank you for your reply and sorry I didn’t see it earlier

the 400 error appears periodically and apparently it is a problem with my browser and I need to clear the cache there, although annoying it is manageable.

We had no problems for months, no new plug-ins and then suddenly things happen!

    Thank you
    Amy

    Hi @amyskea,

If the issue is browser related, we highly recommend switching to a different browser to enable smooth operations.
