    The latest plugin update (15.1.1) destroyed the whole website. My client (owner of the site) have lost a day of complete work because of this. This is really frustrating because I had to reload a backup of yesterday.

    Many users on this forums seems to encounter this fatal error which creates a huge error_log file. Mine was 437 GB, see screenshot for proof https://prnt.sc/v03jwe

    Reloading the backup from yesterday created an error_log of 1.8mb with different lines, here’s one that seems reccuring.

    If I update the plugin to the latest version the same error repeats indefinitely until the hard drive of the server is full and crash.

    Please help, this is critical.

    I’m running a very healthy site with all best practices. PHP, SQL, WordPress, theme and plugins all updated to the latest version.

    Thanks for helping me.

  • Hi @g22,

    We’re really sorry to hear that you’re getting excessive errors after updating to the latest version of Yoast SEO.

    Below are a few questions and steps to take that will hopefully get your site working with the latest version or, at least, provide us with more information to help us troubleshoot:

    1. Can you confirm that your site meets minimum server requirements and all your other plugins and themes are updated?

    2. We’d like you to reset the Yoast database tables and allow Yoast SEO to reindex the SEO data on the site.

    You can use the steps below by either testing this on a staging site or by making a new backup if you haven’t done so already:

    1. Install and activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Click the “Reset indexables and migrations” button
    4. Go to SEO > Tools and under “Optimize SEO Data” click the “Start SEO data optimization” button.

    For sites with more than 10,000 posts, we’d advise using the WP CLI command to do the indexation on the server instead of going to SEO > Tools. You can read more about this here: WP CLI – Reindex Indexables command

    Do the errors still appear?

    I experienced the exact same issue. The issue resolved once I disabled Yoast SEO via FTP, then deleted the error log file that had ballooned in size and crashed the server. It appears some residual damage to the database may also have occurred as a result.

    I am also experiencing problems with my site after upgrading this plugin.I am unable to post a new blogposts also.

    @mikes41720 @priscillamc I can’t play mouse and cat on this website. I have a backup running now that works. I’ll let some time so you fix the issue with someone else and wait for an update or come back and check in 2 weeks if it’s resolved.

    Please don’t close the ticket.

    Thanks.

    @g22 We do understand if you’re not able to perform any diagnostic testing on the site due it being a live site. We’ll also keep this forum thread open for an additional week to give you and others additional time to reply back.

    As for the issue, have you ever considered setting up a?staging environment?for your tests? Hi, I tried updating and as of now (15 minutes since updating), the error_log file isn’t increasing in gigabytes. Still I have an error and would like to know how to resolve it.

    We are sorry to hear that you’re still seeing an error in the server error log and we can imagine how that could be frustrating for you. Let’s see what’s going on here.

    The error you’re seeing occurs in the server error log when Yoast SEO fails to create the {prefix}_yoast_indexable table in the database. Can you please confirm whether you’ve performed the SEO data optimization from the SEO → Tools page? If not, please run the relevant analysis to see whether this resolves the issue for you.

    However, if you have already performed the relevant analysis and the issue persists, we’d like you to please reset the Yoast SEO Indexables tables and migrations by following the steps given below:

    • Install and activate Yoast Test Helper plugin;
    • Go to Tools → Yoast Test → Yoast SEO → Reset Indexables tables & migrations options to reset it;
    • Runthe SEO data optimization from Yoast SEO → Tools page.

    Let us know whether the issue persists after performing the above suggestions.

    It’s not resolved yet, I can’t always work on this website as it is live and there are many visitors. There’s a promotion at the moment and I can’t do this. Please leave this ticket open until I can try the troubleshooting steps.

    Hi @g22,

    Thanks for the update. We’re sorry to hear that there’s still a problem. Just to make sure that we understand, do you mean that you tried to reset the indexables database tables and that didn’t solve the problem?

    We can understand that you’re working with a busy site. Is it possible to set up a staging site or a separate test site where you can test a copy of the site with the latest version of Yoast SEO 15.6.2?
