I recently encountered a critical issue after updating my WordPress core to the latest version. My website, which was functioning perfectly before the update, is now completely inaccessible. When attempting to access the site, I receive the following error message:
“There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”
I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue with the following steps:
- Deactivating Plugins: I accessed my site via FTP and renamed the plugins folder to deactivate all plugins. This did not resolve the issue.
- Switching Themes: I also renamed my active theme folder to switch to a default theme, but the error persists.
- Debug Mode: I enabled WP_DEBUG in the wp-config.php file to get more information about the error. The debug log indicates issues with some core files, but I am unsure how to proceed.
I am seeking advice on how to:
- Identify and resolve the root cause of this critical error.
- Ensure a smooth update process in the future to avoid similar issues.
