• Went to look at my site moreclientsforrealtors.com, and because I have a theme that operates through a plugin, it was totally blank. I went to look at my login and saw this:

Not a good sign…. I refreshed the page and now it shows that I have no plugins whatsoever.

Now when I try to re-download a plugin, it says “Installation failed: Could not create directory.”

I have no idea why this happened, seems like something important is messed up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Use FTP or your Host provided file manager to check if the folder /wp-contents/plugins/ was renamed, or if each the folders in it were.

Above typically happens for one of those reasons. If you, or someone with access, did not rename them, your host may have due to a concern. Contact them.

Thanks for your quick reply. It looks like I’m on the way to solving this. Here is a pic from my FTP. Do I need to create the plugins folder over again? What could have caused this?

UNCOMMON SITUATION but I have inadvertently moved files or folders while in working FTP.
Check in an adjacent folder to see if possibly that happened to your plugin folder.
You can also check your FTP transfer history

And then upload the version of each plugin that was most recently there (from your screenshot). You can find that version info in the DB for each plugin. Deleting a plugin by FTP etc does not delete the plugin data from the DB.

Please do a full backup of files and DB prior to any major site changes. You may update 100 times and all is well, it’s the 101st time that will make your life ****.

Once that is done, activate one at a time to troubleshoot. Check all site functionality after each activation.
