critical error during authentication

During the launch wizard, after I select my property from the dropdown menu and click complete, I receive a critical error while authenticating. It says check my email for a report, but it does not send me a report. I have tried removing the plugin and reinstalling with no success. I have no other analytics plugins installed, this is a fresh and rather lean installation still, with very few plugins installed so far.
