I’ve just migrated a website to a different hosting provider and I have the following problem under Settings > Reading screen:

There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.
Learn more about debugging in WordPress.

and with a debug on its telling me:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 134217736 bytes) in /public_html/wp-includes/post.php on line 5047

So I’ve contacted my hosting provider and they’ve increased the memory limit and I’ve done the following also:

    • Disabled all plugins
    • re-installed WordPress
    • Reverted to the default theme

but I’m still experiencing this issue..

Any help would be highly appreciated.

How far did they increase your memory limit to?

You can see that at Tools > Site Health > Info > Server in your site’s Dashboard.

    Hello James,
PHP memory limit is set to 512M

Im really stuck here, I cant find anything regarding this issue

WP alone should need only 32M, so this doesn’t make much sense.

Is that value also reported at Tools > Site Health > Info > Server in your site’s Dashboard?

And, are you sure you tried with all plugins deactivated and the Twenty Twenty theme?

    (@stefanpejcic)

Yes, it’s the same value as in the Server info under Site Health…

I did, I’ve disabled all plugins and switched to the default theme, still, this section is inaccessible and prints errors.

What version of PHP are you running?

7.3 but I’ve tried downgrading all the way to 5.6

Have you contacted your hosting provider about this?

If WordPress itself, with no plugins and only the default theme, won’t run under 512 MB of memory, there’s a serious problem.

The error is gone, we’ll probably never know what was causing it in the first place..

thank you for your time James.
