Critical error on page-sitemap.xml

I could also replicate the error. Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

Thank you for your comprehensive reply, I executed the Health Check through the plugin and concluded that one of the plugins was causing it. However while disabling/enabling plugins in Troubleshoot-mode, the live website got a critical error and went fully down together with WP-Admin. Did not expect that while in the TS-mode.

In any case: the issue has been resolved now and thank you for your help.
