• Hi, I’m experiencing a critical error on the shop page of my WordPress website, which uses WooCommerce and the Gutenify theme.

Here’s a summary of the issue:

    1. **Setup**: I have a WordPress website with WooCommerce installed. I was updating the page templates through the native WordPress editor.

    2. **Initial Problem**: I noticed a critical error on the shop page a day before my site started redirecting to another addon domain.

    3. **Debugging Steps**: Following advice, I added debugging code to my wp-config.php file, but I couldn’t find the debug log in the wp-content directory. This led me to restore backups of the .htaccess file and wp-config.php file because my site was redirecting to another addon domain.

    4. **Current State**: The redirection issue is fixed, but the shop page still shows a critical error. I had accidentally trashed the shop page but restored it from the trash.

    5. **Plugins**: I have deactivated most of my plugins except for the WooCommerce plugins. Could you please assist me in identifying and fixing the critical error on my shop page?

    Thank you!

    Jackie

  • The reason for the error should be visible in the error log. You can find it in your hosting area. If necessary, the support of your hosting can help you.

Alternatively, you could also enable debugging in WordPress. How to do this is described here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/ – also here the support of your hosting can help you if necessary to edit the file accordingly.

In both cases you should be able to see what the cause is in the logfile.

Hello! Thanks for the quick response. I was able to see the cause and fixed it. However, my site will still sometimes redirect to the other addon domain. I thought the issue was fixed. Do you have any advice on that? It only started happening after I added that debug code to my wpconfig file.

My hosting provider checked and said there was nothing redirecting on the cpanel side.

Unfortunately, I don’t know what you mean by addon domain. The language is more common in hosting, not in WordPress. I therefore don’t know what connection your WordPress website has with it. So unfortunately I can’t judge it more precisely.

Of course, you should deactivate debugging again if you no longer need it.
