Hello, I was attempting to update a couple of tables on our agency website, but I am unable to access the content window for editing capacity. When I am in the dashboard and open the table I want to edit, I can see the Table Information section with ID, Short code, Name and Description. I can access the Table Manipulation section, the Table Options section, and the Table Features for site visitors. However, there is nothing displaying in the Table Content section. Any advice?

Hi, I have the same problem. WordPress tells me there is a critical error in Tablepress. ‘Uncaught type error’.

    Hi again

With my site, the trouble is caused by the plugin Custom admin interface which I installed recently. When I turned that off, I could see the tables again. Can this be fixed?

I find Custom admin interface very useful, and would rather not uninstall it. Would it be okay to turn it off when I update tables, and turn it on again afterwards?

    Hi @raflo64,

indeed, this is caused by a plugin conflict, as I was now already able to confirm on multiple sites.

Can you therefore please try again after temporarily deactivating all other plugins one by one, and each time check if the issue disappears? I have now seen issues (at least) from these plugins:

    • Smash Balloon Instagram Feed
    • TeachPress
    • Kreativo Pro Speed Optimization
    • Cool Timeline
    • Instant Images

@ritailsted: Thanks for already trying this! I can confirm that the WP Custom Admin Interface plugin is also having this bug.

In that plugin, the line https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/wp-custom-admin-interface/trunk/wp-custom-admin-interface.php#L511 is wrong. Instead of echo, it should use return.

So, to fix this, you could edit that file on your server, and replace that echoin line 511 with return. (Your idea with temporarily deactivating the plugin will also work!)

    Hi,

Quick update: I released TablePress 2.2.1 that should fix the problem of losing the whole table editing interface. (It will work around those bugs in the mentioned other plugins.) Ideally, these should still be fixed in those plugins.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Thank you Tobias – for us it was a definitely a plug-in that auto updated … we restored the site from the overnight backup and all seems to be working. Running TablePress 2.2.1 now. Appreciate your insight and help.

    Hi @raflo64,

good to hear that everything is working again!

Note that this was in no way related to an auto update! Instead, there is (at least one) a plugin on your site that has a “silent” bug. This normally will not cause problems — unless extended type checking is used. I had enabled that in TablePress 2.2 (underestimating how many other plugins might have this “silent” bug), which then turned that “silent” bug into a “loud” bug (which raised the error message and broke the site).

In TablePress 2.2.1, I relaxed that extended type checking again, so that the “silent” bug in the other plugin remains silent ??

    Regards,
    Tobias
