Before installing some optimization plugin I made sure to backup with UpdraftPlus.

The plugins made a visuaal issue on my website so I tried to restore the site from the backup (which was supposedly reported as successful on the log)

However while restoring I got an error, that resulted in breaking the database and me not being able to log in to the site.

I had asked a specialist to do the restore, at my own cost while it was clearly a bug by UpdraftPlus. Why did this happen? and how to avoid it happening again?

I have noticed that while trying to download the zip for the “updates” a crash happens to too. Maybe it could be associated to the bug?

    Thank you,

    Hi,

Apologies for the inconvenience. From your description, it appears that the restoration was either timed out early, or exhausted your allocated memory.

If possible, please could you send us a copy of the restoration log? This should be found in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the site.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin to upload the log, and post the link here.

    Hi,

From the log, I believe that the issue was due to restoration uninstalling WP Fastest Cache.

WP Fastest Cache make several changes to WordPress .htaccess file that the free version of UpdraftPlus cannot back up.
This can cause issues if the plugin is then removed without reverting the changes.

In the future, I would recommend deactivating WP Fastest Cache before restoring a backup if possible.
