The splash page brings the focus of what the site is about and is like leading you inside the house. I really like that part of it.
The front page of the site could do that just as well, and wouldn’t leave the reader pointlessly clicking to see the page that they wanted to see in the first place.
Splash pages should be confined to the past where they belong.
Next, the front page. Well, all in all, not bad, but the most obvious thing on the front page is a massive sponser link designed to take me *away* from your site. I know it’s nice to have a sponsor but that really is over the top. It’s right in the middle of the page!
Next, just an observation on one of your entries –

It’s just a one line entry saying that the winners are listed on another page. But there’s not even a link to that page in the entry! The link is elsewhere on your menu or something. Why not make it easy for people, turn that sentance clickable. Better yet, tease the readers in by at least giving some more info.
