cron_schedules out of control

WP-PageNavi doesn’t use cron. There is not a single line of cron in the code.

I’m confused then. In file /wp-pagenavi/scb/Cron.php line 60

add_filter( 'cron_schedules', array( $this, '_add_timing' ) );

That seems to hook into cron_schedules to call the function _add_timing to insert new cron entries, yes?

scb is a WP framework, so it has most of the WP features as helpers. But the code itself doesn’t use it.

Unfortunately wp-pagenavi.php includes scb/load.php, which loads everything in the WP framework, including Cron.php and the constructor automatically attaches the hook into cron_schedules.

I don’t know what it’s doing, but it seems to be an issue on high traffic sites. ??

Hmm my company site https://www.techinasia.com/ is using WP-PageNavi and is getting about 2.3M pageviews a month. We don’t have this problem though.

It could be my set up. I use a caching plugin and turned off WP-Cron in favor of a real cron job every 5 minutes.

So is my company setup as well (using real cron every minute). We don’t use a caching plugin though. We only use object-cache.php on REDIS

It turns out it’s a bug introduced in WordPress 4.3 that’s blowing up the database when splitting taxonomy terms.

I was only debugging my plugins so I thought it might be WP-PageNavi. It is not. It was WordPress itself. ??
