Crop thumbnails problem

    It’s very confusing to me how wordpress crops thumbnails !!
    I spent all day with google trying to get this right and no success so far
    this is the code :
    add_image_size( 'thumb-larg', 556, 296, true );
    but what I get is (473×252) (498×266) …..
    How Can I get the exact size for all posts ????
