I’ve been away for a bit for assisting family after the passing of my mother-in-law, so I am not sure when this may have happened, although it was definitely after we left on 23 Jun 2024, and could be due to a change in WP 6.6, as it coincides with that release…? Or possibly the byproduct of a different plugin?*

Anyhow, when composing a post, the Featured Image controls in the right-hand panel have moved to the top of the column. No biggie. However the thumbnail shown has been reduced in size from previous. IIRC, it used to show the entire uploaded image. Now it just shows a cropped, “widescreen” version of the image. Is there any way to revert or adjust this so that the users continue to see the full image they have uploaded?

*Note, this may be an Elementor problem, but I’m just not sure. Starting here first.

I’m confused. You first talk about the view that I present in the block editor. In the panel on the right you can select the feature image. But then you mention Elementor, where as far as I know this panel is on the left? Unfortunately, your screenshot is not available.

Let’s try this for the image. (I hope it works)

As for the Elementor part, if that image above works you can see that we now have a “Generate with Elementor AI” prompt underneath the Featured Image thumbnail in the Block Editor. This prompt wasn’t there before, I’ve tried to deactivate Elementor’s AI stuff via their settings but this prompt still persists, and I don’t know if it is somehow tied into this problem or not.

Note that the actual image uploaded is a full square, not the widescreen ratio now seen in the thumbnail in the block editor.

I know this all seems confusing. I’m trying my best to explain a situation I’m not entirely familiar with. Sorry!!! ??

Disable Elementor and all other plugins to rule them out as the cause of an image problem. If it works without them, one of the plugins must be to blame. You can then find out which one is making the adjustments by activating the plugins individually.
