CSS: adding borders – pagelist_ext

Hi,
i want to customize the design of pagelist_ext, but iam not that big css-guy ??
I want to set borders above/below/besides the listed pages. Is this possible? Furthermore to clarify it a little bit more i want to change the background. (main background of page is white). First collum should be white, the next grey, the next white, the next grey…and so on… What do you think? is this possible? Could you help me a little bit, i am afraid of fucking it up ??
