Css broken after coping website

Hi all,
I have been trying to update a website that was seriously out of date.
to start with i copied it to a test domain.
after doing so i noticed some issue with my mega menu. so i investigated.
i have found that the css is now broken.
all “>” have become the html code/name “>”, which has broken the menu css.
anyone know how to fix this? i don’t really wanna rebuild the entire menu again.

So i have now tested this on a different website.
fresh installation of the plugin.
i believe wordpress 5.9 could be the issue.
like my previous post the CSS is breaking, all “>” symbols become (without the spaces) ” & g t ;”
