CSS Child-Selector isn't working

For example, If I want all list items that are immediate children of the main nav:

nav > li {padding: 5px}

It’s not working because it’s converted to HTML code:

> becomes &nbsp in the printed script, which of course has no CSS value.

Wonderful plugin otherwise!
