CSS Editing

Hi I am a beginner with css and have a fairly quick question. What is the box your posts go in called? In my template, mine is white and I’d like to change it to black, but I don’t know where it’s listed in the stylesheet because I have no idea what it’s called.
It’s not background– that sits in the back of what I’m trying to change.
