• My site saved css code fine, usually I used the appearance, css editor area, but since the WP 4.7 update, everything seemed frozen, nothing I altered to it would save. The grey button in the narrow tab, said it was saved and published but all the browsers said when leave the page, ‘your change’s might not be saved….’

So I deleted jetpack, just in case, this all happened before any new plugins were added, so it must be with WP 4.7….so can anyone tell me how to fix this? I don’t want to upgrade my theme, simplymag 3.0.4, I tried testing out the 4. version and it still seemed frozen so I’ve gone back to my current older version…so I’m only interested in help that unfreezes my locked in css code in my current version. If I could I could then paste it into the ‘theme options’ Simplymag code area instead, I try doing that anyway, but nothing changes…I need to get the old code out of the traditional WP css area, which it won’t do, it’s very weird.

    Please help, WP people.

To add CSS: If you are using WordPress 4.7, use the “Custom CSS” option in the customizer. If your theme has a custom CSS option, use that to add the CSS. If not, install the plugin Simple Custom CSS. Or, if you have Jetpack installed, enable its Custom CSS module.

I said, I’ve done all that and the old css I put in frozen in, I cannot alter any of it, or remove it, or use any new plugin to change anything css….so what’s wrong with WP? I removed jetpack i case it was a fault there, no difference…I’ve explained…nothing works and if I can’t delete the old css, I can’t use anything new either.

By chance it now seems to at last enable it to be removed and save it as it should, but if you put any new css to any of the plugins, simple css, neither removing it, nor editing css in the other plugin for css, makes any changes visible…so it’s not functioning properly.

I think I have found the problem, I deleted a few plugins that I wasn’t using, but that wasn’t it…but then I deleted the same code put into the theme options css section, and that seemed to do it…now I can see a few colour changes only on the css section I made…so I Think I’ve solved it…! Which is a first all by myself…! Thanks for now I read the article but it sounds a bit advanced for me…I can recommend though using simple custom css as a plugin and avoiding using customise WP itself or any css space with the theme….!

Can you provide some additional detail on what you did? I am having the same problem. I can see the custom CSS in the new menu but I can’t save my changes. It looks like some additional characters have been added which is causing issues on my site (< a).

    Thanks.

yes…I did a procedure which may have helped or not…I activated an old theme, tried out the updated imported theme of the one I really want and use normally, which I found looked odd and had removed some useful controls, so I reverted back and re-imported my older theme which I prefer. I had by then already removed jetpack, which wasn’t the issue, as it didn’t control the customise area…

I then removed a few plugins I was using like WP Optimiser, Simple Social icons and something else…I then noticed that it then saved the changes, no browser messages saying it wouldn’t save, but didn’t apply them, so that was progress. This meant I could then delete, or copy the css in the customise area, and paste it into the plugin I had downloaded called simple custom css. Altho, that didn’t yet apply any of my changes, what made the final difference was removing the duplicated css I had put into the css area provided by the theme itself, another area. After that the css now works properly…so what exactly it all was I don’t know. Because it all worked fine before I upgraded to WP4.7 but giving a shake up seemed to help all round. Technology eh! it’s the first time I’ve managed to find the fault myself…

I got it working again. Ended up clearing the custom CSS box and it then let me save. After that, I added the custom CSS back one section at a time until it no longer would save. Looks like there is either a max number of characters or some odd check style rules being applied.

    Thanks.

How very interesting, I’m glad you got yours working too…it seems a chance succession of trials but once you can save things, then deletion into another plugin that does the same thing is the answer. Phew….
