I recently found a solution for a big cache problem i was having.

The problem: style.css edits were not showing up. I had cleared my all of my browsers cache and history and tried deleting and reloading the style.css with no luck.

Finally I found out that DreamHost (my hosting provider) uses this thing called “Varnish” to cache files like my style.css.

After downloading this plug-in: Varnish HTTP Purge
and clicking “Purge Varnish” on my WordPress Dashboard, my changes showed up!

Caching plugins can have the same effect, as well as some SEO plugins (like Yoast) which have their own caching functionality. Caching plugins should be temporarily disabled when doing updates to the site, and then re-enabled. Some caching plugins have a function that allows you to flush, purge, or refresh the cache.

Dreamhost has also activated Pagespeed on some WordPress accounts, causing them to look messed up. Something to be aware of in case your CSS suddenly stops working.
