Using WP Ultimate CSV Importer v. 3.6.2, auto utf-8 handling is supposed to be introduced (since 3.6). However, when importing a csv document with some norwegian special characters (???), it doesn’t seem to work. Strings get cut off at the position of these characters.

I read about the notepad++ solution, however it’s really not an ideal solution for when you want clients to be able to upload a CSV file with no hassle at all. I intend to buy the pro version to make this process as simple as possible, the only obstacle is this utf-8 bug.

Are there any simpler solutions, or upcoming bugfixes for this?

  • Can you please share your sample csv file to check. Our importer supports for UTF-8 without bom format only. We have tested with chinese and arabic language also. You can check here .

    Thanks.

The original csv has some hundred rows, I removed all but one row which contains a special character (?) in the column called “Hovedgruppe_Navn”. When I tried uploading it at your test website, this column came up blank.
This is the csv to use for testing.

(I didn’t create the csv myself, so I was thinking there could be something fuzzy about it, but I tried copying the contents to a blank/new csv in excel, same problem when uploading.)

Please use HTML special character (ø) instead of norwegian special character (?). Our importer works with HTML code. If the special characters are exist in post_content. If it exists in custom fields it does not works. We will fix that issue in our future release.

    Thanks.

Do you have any ETA on the future release?

I have a csv with hundreds of rows, which is updated once in a while by a client. I can’t ask them to go through the document replacing special characters for hundreds of rows ??

    Thanks!

We have added your reported issue in our development pipeline. You will get the fix in our next major release.

    Thanks.
