    Hi there!

Unfortunately I am not able to upload contacts via a .CSV file to Jetpack CRM. I have followed the formatting rules and parameters but no chance. I always get an error message that the file isn’t correctly formatted.

I don’t know what to do anymore. Could you please help me out?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi there, @robertfeis,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble, but thanks for reaching out.

Have you tried to follow the instructions we shared about formatting the CSV file for CRM’s importing? There is also a sample file you can download so you can compare it with the one that is erroring on your end.

Let me know how you get on!

    Hi Stef,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have tried everything I could even by modifying the file in different ways.

The .csv itself can be uploaded by other plugins without any problem.

Here you will find a test file link, maybe you can find out why it is not working because it is a pity as the plugin is really nice.

    Hi @robertfeis,

Would you specify that you’re on the latest version of Jetpack CRM (v.5.8.0) and you’re using the default CSV importer (Lite) included in the core (free) plugin?

I’ve tested the CSV file you provided on a fresh WordPress install, using the latest version of Jetpack CRM (v.5.8.0). Note, I did NOT have any paid extensions, such as CSV Importer Pro. Below are the steps I’ve taken, so you can compare it with your steps:

    1. Since your CSV file included a header row, I ticked “Ignore first line..” setting. To simplify the import, I only mapped the three fields: “Anrede” as Prefix, “Name 1” as Last Name, “Strasse” as Address Line 1:

    Screen Shot

    2. Once I’ve verified the field mapping and run imports, the log showed all contacts have been imported:

    Screen Shot

Then, I checked the Contacts page to view all contacts imported properly:

If you’re seeing any errors or issues even while following the same steps as above, would you share a screenshot of what you see on your end? Thanks!

    Hi Jay!

    Many thanks for your reply.

“Would you specify that you’re on the latest version of Jetpack CRM (v.5.8.0) and you’re using the default CSV importer (Lite) included in the core (free) plugin?”

    Yes for both questions.

My problem is, that the .csv file doesn’t load at all and Jetpack returns an error (wrongly formatted csv file) before I can access to the next steps in your screenshots.

And I don’t think that it is due to other WordPress plugins installed because the same file uploads fine in other plugins.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @robertfeis,

My problem is, that the .csv file doesn’t load at all and Jetpack returns an error (wrongly formatted csv file) before I can access to the next steps in your screenshots.

That’s odd, since I used the same CSV file you shared and I didn’t run into that issue!

Just to be sure, would you make sure your CSV file is meeting these requirements:

    • .csv file extension
    • Comma-separated (i.e., not semicolon, or anything else)
    • Text fields wrapped by double quotes to avoid issues importing them.

If you haven’t already done so, here is our kb guide detailing full requirements and sample CSV file:

    https://kb.jetpackcrm.com/knowledge-base/what-should-my-csv-be-formatted-like/

I recommend downloading the sample CSV file in the kb guide above and using that as the template to populate a couple of rows, for testing purposes.

If these still don’t work, I recommend following these steps to resolve error:

    1. Update your WordPress to the latest version.
    2. Try saving the file with UTF8 Encoding (as per this guide)
    3. If that doesn’t work, likely you have special characters causing WordPress to reject your CSV file. The current workaround is to install this plugin:?https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-real-mime-check/?and activate it. Your CSV imports will then probably ‘just work’. We recommend deactivating this plugin after importing your CSV file.

You can find the above steps in our kb guide as well: https://kb.jetpackcrm.com/knowledge-base/csv-importer-sorry-this-file-type-is-not-permitted-for-security-reasons/

Let us know how it goes!
