    Hi there!
I just upgraded to the new release and noticed that the new CSV import is broken:

-no check to inicate if first line should be imported or not
-not possible to import all fields, because it shows only 7 columns (while there are 23 field-types to choose from)

and all over the import is much more cumbersome now. I have to select 3 options every time (it would be great if I could pre-set them) and also i don’t see the advantage of uploading the CSV files to the media library. I really don’t want to keep them, which makes it necessary to delete them now…

It would be so great if you could have a second look at this, because it really feels like we are losing quite a bit of functionality here.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Chiming in: I too have noted the CSV importer is hopelessly broken. I attempted to import a one-line file but, when “previewing”, I got an error that it contained no data. Reverting back to the better 4.2.7.

(I just tried WP Rollback plugin and it works great. It adds a “Rollback” option to every installed plugin which, if clicked, can install an older version of that plugin. Obviously it could break the data, more likely the further backward one goes, but it skips all those annoying manual steps.)

    Hi @mailmeeva and @jolshefsky,

I’m sorry you are having this issue.

On uploading: unfortunately there is no other way to read the data from the file. It needs to be uploaded to the server first.

Please check your csv files for the following:
    – Are the data fields separated by commas (,) or by tabs? If they are separated by tabs, it will most probably not work.
    – Do you have any special characters in any of the fields that might cause an issue?
    – Do you have a comma in a field (I.e. 22nd street, New York), that might cause an issue?

And thanks a lot for the feedback on the user experience of the new importer. A positive user experience and user satisfaction is on top of our list. I will definitely relay the message to our developers.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hi Andras,
the CSV are wellformed, I can assure you. I generate them with a script. Also I was able to upload them with the old CSV Import with no problem after I rolled back. The files only contain data, from row 1 on (that’s why I miss the checkbox about the first line with column names).

I can send you one of those files if it is helpful for you, actually I really think you should try the new CSV Import for yourself, since the fact, that there are only 7 columns but 23 field types has nothing to do with my files.

Also I understand that you have to upload the files to the server, but do we really need them in the media library? How was it done before? To me it seemed like some sort of temporary upload.

For the moment I stick to version 4.2.7 and hope you will fix it, let me know if I can contribute somehow.

    Thanks and all the best
    Eva
