I experience CSV-import issues on TEC free. Thus, some events are not imported at all. The event details themself are fine on the imported ones.

I know my CSV-file contains duplicate event titles, but differ in time, veneu or category. However these cause import issues regardless of the 3 import overwrite/update event settings.

So, how is an event is an event uniquely identified during import? In the documentation I couldn’t find anything about that. (And so I also don’t know when an update if the CSV would still target the right event). WP All-import let’s you add fields, that build the unique identifier, can you add that as well if there’s no other solution?

P.S. I can share the CSV via mail.

  • Hi there,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Each entry in a CSV file is treated as a unique event when imported, so even with duplicate names, everything should be imported. Also, CSV file imports are not affected by the overwrite settings for our plugin.

Can you please check and confirm that your CSV file is formatted according to the examples in this article?

Also, if you’re trying to re-import your events from the CSV file, you will need to delete the existing events on your site, otherwise, they will be duplicated from the new import.

Yes, I took it from there and I used Google Tables to adapt it. My content is German with ?,? and ü, but that doesn’t seem like an issue. Even in the raw file, I couldn’t spot an issue.

I can send you the file to confirm the issues, if I get a mail address.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Posting email addresses on the www.ads-software.com support forums is frowned on so we will have to go about this some other way.

Do you think you could upload the CSV file to a file sharing site, and then share the link here?

Yes, I send it via We-Transfer, available for 7 days

Thanks for getting back to me.

I ran an import task on a test sitewith the file you shared and was able to import all the upcoming events listed in the CSV file. You can take a look at the test site with the imported events here: https://splendidcopperhead.build067.wpsandbox.app/events/

Could you try restarting the import process on your site by removing all existing events listed on the site, and then making sure that you map the columns from the CSV file correctly?

I checked your data, and there’s also something missing. E.g. 4th September should contain 3 entries, but only 2 are there. The event with the same title, start date and start time is replaced by the last event listed in the CSV where these 3 fields match. The first one is just completely gone.

On a fresh website with only TEC with default setting, I get:

    Import complete!
    109 new events were imported.

Whereas there should be 123 imported events. So, I can confirm that there is something wrong and the CSV import doesn’t follow the behavior explained above. Your test import confirmed that.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I went back to check the events on the test site I shared earlier, and you were right about some of the events not being imported.

I consulted with our development team and from their feedback, events with the same name, date, and time information will be considered as the same event when being imported from a CSV file, as these are the fields used to uniquely identify events.

At the moment we don’t have a workaround for this (beyond renaming the duplicate events), but if this is a feature you’d like to see in the future, you can make the suggestion on our Ideas page.

Okay, thanks for the confirmation. Then the main reason for the plugin is obsolete, and I could have used WP All Import with CPT UI as well.
Please, update your documentation in the meantime, I couldn’t find any hint about that behavior.

I’ll create an Idea and hopefully, there’s a fix for this simple issue, so my clients can import their CSVs as expected soon.
