csv importer question

this company made my website I spent all of my money and they had such a hard time fixing csv importer for over a year finally it worked right. its version 2.1. my question is this>when a importer is made for someone’s business to upload product, is it only a temporary importer. because I haven’t worked in it for a year after it was made I finally got to where I have time to load In importer and it is having an [an error occurred…update importer settings before trying again..] message. I checked all the settings I only use 5> product category, product identifier, product price, description, product name. everything is good there.
does this mean my importer no longer works and has had a time limit to use it to upload?
