    There is a bug with CSV imports leading to duplication of existing sub-categories, rather than assigning imported products to the existing sub-category (https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/36336). Is there a way to define the category in my CSV file by its ID rather than the “Parent > Child” format that might sidestep this issue? Or do I just need to manually recategorize all my imports after the fact?

    I understand that you are looking for an alternative way to define the category in your CSV file by using its ID instead of the Parent > Child format.

    I believe that you are referring to the built-in Product CSV Importer and Exporter here, correct?

    If so, currently, the CSV import functionality in WooCommerce does not support defining categories by their IDs. The category hierarchy is determined using the Parent > Child format, and unfortunately, there isn’t an alternative method available at the moment.

    Meanwhile, can you please share with us a copy of the CSV file you are referring to here for us to check this further on our end?

    Furthermore, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share your System Status Report that you can find via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

    Yes, I’m using the built in importer, not the paid Import Suite extension. Unfortunately, this is a client site full of an as yet unreleased product line, so I can not share the data. That being said, I’ve sorted out my import and got everything up successfully.
