Hi. A couple of days ago my site had a DOS attack and it was taken down for an hour or so by the hosting company (Siteground). After that, all was well except I couldn’t run a scan and saw wp_remote_post() test back to this server failed! Response was: cURL error 7 in the diagnostics.

Latest version of Wordfence and WordPress. PHP 7.4.33. All working fine until the site was taken offline. Siteground can access noc1.wordfence.com.

I tried switching to IPv4 only and the scan still won’t run. I have sent the scan log through to wftest@. The scan starts but gives up after a couple of seconds.

I’d be grateful for any suggestions of how I can resolve this.

    Thanks

Hi @attractmore, thanks for reaching out!

The loss of connectivity certainly sounds linked to the issue you experienced. It’s a possibility that the host took action to stop the attack like increasing strictness on which IPs and domains can reach your site, or locking down settings on an external (to WordPress) CDN or firewall like Cloudflare, etc.

cURL Error 7 often means that the website can’t make the connection to our servers at all. As you’ve already confirmed the host can reach our noc1 server, you may need to speak with them over whether your own site needs to be allowed to connect back to itself, or any of our IPs need to be whitelisted just in case anything was changed: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/#servers-and-ip-range

Let us know if the issue persists,
    Peter.
