Currently version 2.3, trying to upgrade to 2.8

Alright, I’m on version 2.3 of wordpress, and am going to try upgrading to 2.8. How many upgrades do I have to do, I assume that I can’t jump straight to 2.8 from this low, can I? Or do I upgrade with each major release? Like 2.4, then 2.5, then 2.6. then 2.7, finally 2.8?
