For some odd reason, a user is only able to enter one letter at a time, when filling out the contact form. The cursor disappears after typing one letter. Before typing in the second letter, one needs to actively click into the field again to make the cursor appear. This makes it practically impossible to send a message, unless you pre-type it somewhere and then copy and paste it into the form.

This happens on desktops (tested in Firefox, Chrome and Edge). This does NOT happen on mobile (tested Chrome and Samsung Browser).

I don’t know when this started. Debug log does not give any hints.

    Any idea what happened?

    Thanks, Astrid

What other plugins and theme do you use on the site?

Theme is a child theme of Siteorigin Corp.

Plugins are: BackWpUp, CodeSnippets (no snippet active), Flamingo, Flipbox, Header Footer Code Manager, Honeypot for CF7, Limit Login Attempts, Local Google Fonts, Loco Translate, Mousewheel Smooth Scroll, Popup Maker, Siteorigin Pagebuilder and CSS, SVG Support, WP Image Captcha, Yoast Duplicate Post and Yoast SEO.

Seems like there is some blur event fired on every keypress. I couldn’t find anything specific but I have the feeling that the Smooth Scroll plugin could be responsible for this. Try to deactivate that plugin and see what happens when entering something then.

The Smooth Scroll plugin is deactivated – however the form behaves the same way. Any other ideas?

Try switching to the default theme, deactivating all plugins excluding Contact Form 7, Flamingo and Yoast SEO, and clearing all cache data.

Why you are advised to deactivate plugins and switch to the default theme.

Ahh… that helped. There was a conflict with the Page Builder, but only because of the way I set up the desktop version for that page…. I could solve it and the form now behaves as it should. Thanks and merry Christmas. ??
