While I am editing a page, the cursor will jump to the very end of the html code at the bottom. OR, I will get a white screen of death and lose anything I have typed in. This started about 2 months ago for 2 websites and for multiple people. I just had our IT guy review and fix a few issues with old PHP and a missing file from the theme. But these changes did not fix the issues. It does seem like I can type more letters than before.

I see no issues with the actual live website. It’s only when editing a portfolio item.

You can see the situation at 32 seconds into the video at:

The white screen of death is at 10 seconds in this video:

I’ve searched the topic and find similar, but always different situations.

10 plug-ins are all current. WordPress is at 6.4.2

The theme is old and maybe something is new with WordPress which is not compatible?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @mike2150,

I understand the frustration you must be feeling dealing with these unexpected issues while editing your pages.

Try to enable the distraction-free option on the page that you are editing.

To enable the distraction-free, just follow these steps:

    • On the page that you are editing, navigate to the three dots on the right menu of the page and click on that. See image: https://share.zight.com/YEuJNxN9.
    • It will show some additional options for your page editing view. Select the Distraction free option. See image: https://share.zight.com/qGuBA21w.
    • You may be now able to update the content of your page without the cursor jumping to the bottom of the page again.
    • To save or update your page, just mouse hover on the top of your page and the toolbar will just show up, and you can now click on the Update button. See video: https://share.zight.com/4guWAoDy.

You can also read this article for more information: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/distraction-free-mode/.

Try the following recommendations, and please let me know how it goes.

    Warm regards,

    Jerry:

    Thanks for helping.

I tried the distraction free approach. Both issues still happen. Seems like I can type about 5 or 6 sentences which is about double what it was without distraction free.

Both the cursor jumping to the end and the white screen of death happened with distraction free.

While editing in block editor, using arrow keys to navigate, my cursor for the past 2-3 months seems to have been randomly jumping from line-to-line and block to block, shifting (scrolling) the page as it does, so I find myself looking for the line I was editing. Why? (Using Safari on a MacBook, but same with Firefox). It didn’t use to do this.

I know the page can be held still by switching to Distraction Free mode but then one loses the Toolbar and Settings panel, meaning more clicks and manoevring to do a task that was previously well-integrated. Most peculiar design decisions…

I would post a new question but can find nowhere to do so, just seem to go in circles using the links on the support pages, which anyway took ages to find on www.ads-software.com. Can someone tell me how to post on the forum? I am logged in.

WordPress seems to have become more obtuse and to have made editing harder with every update since I started using it in 2019. Many more clicks nows needed for tasks that used to be simple. I appreciate it’s free, but still…
