Custom alerts for filtered searches with no results

Hello.
I’m building a used cars sale websites where user can narrow their search by using filters such as year, model, color, etc.
However, when a filtered search returns no results, my client would like to give visitors the chance to create an alert for such filters and add an e-mail to be notified once a car that fits these filters is published.
I’ve been searching for a plugin that helps me accomplish this with no luck so far. I can work my way around editing PHP and Javascript but I feel this is way out of my league to write from scratch.
I would appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction here. Thanks in advance!
