Custom Archive Index not working

  • I wish to create a single page with links to all archived entries. I followed the instructions on https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Creating_an_Archive_Index. But the template is not activating — it’s as if my selection within the Page’s Template (drop down) selection isn’t recognizing the “articles-list.php” template that I created. I checked the WP Reading settings and the “Post page” is set to the correct Page (that connects to the template).
    I’m using the Twenty-Twelve template.
    Am I missing something here?

    Also, this “non activation” of the new template does not work on any of the other (working) templates that I have on this site. It’s like the Reading settings (for it to read as a static page) is being ignored.
