• If I try to add custom buttons by inserting the code grabbed from addthis.com/get, the javascript code will be cleared, removing the profile ID and part of the address bar tracking code.

First I got the code by visiting https://www.addthis.com/get/sharing
Then I inserted it into my WordPress site: dashboard>Settings>AddThisShare>Basic>Custom Buttons
And when I click Save it, the javascript code disappears leaving only pure html code.

I found that the same problem was mentioned here on October 2012:
addthis wordpress plugin strips script and analytics in custom button code box

The Paul answer to contact the software vendor seems out of topic.
The software is Word Press 3.6 and I assume that even previous version had the same problem (the question was posted on October 2012)

My AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget version is 3.1
Either version won’t affect the issue. IMHO the problem is related to the visual editor used by the widget for inserting the code.

Any workaround will be appreciated. I just need to use only certain social networks and not the standard ones proposed by the widget.

  • As for the profile Id, we have AddThis username, password and profile fields on the page Settings-> AddThis Share. Upon filling in our profile details(for which we need analytics), the plugin code picks up this ID and uses it in the script. If these fields are left empty, then an anonymous profile ID is being used.

If you have to use custom code, remove the <script> section and use it in the plugin.

The matter of profile ID is clear.

The issue is the custom code insertion!
When you hit “save” button, the script portion will vanish.

When you said “remove the <script> section and use it in the plugin.” what do you means?

Now I saw that in the latest version (3.5.1) is possible to choose the customization without inserting custom code. I simply dragged and dropped the service that I need into the right windows and it works!
    Thats works fine.

This doesn’t work for me. I drag and drop the services I want, but after hitting “save” the custom dropped settings get erased.

@asterix: Is it possible to share a dev site with admin access? You can mail me to srijith[AT]addthis.com. We have tried in several instances and not able to reproduce the issue.

Thanks for the quick response. We’ve temporarily switched to WPSocialite because of it’s lightweight profile, but if we switch back to AddThis in the future I’ll take you up on your offer.
