Custom checkbox options for posts

I’m working on a website in which there will be a list of lodging businesses. We wanted to add a custom metabox, taxonomy or whatever that would have 3 options to check for each business: open year-round, pet-friendly and wi-fi available. I was thinking a checkbox for each would be easiest for people to add/update those options for each business.

I was also thinking that for each of the checkboxes selected, it would display an image rather than text.

Any recommendations on the best way to add this feature for each listing, be it with code or a plugin? I’m not super familiar with php but have been able to do some customizing of themes.
