Custom checkout form – additional text fields possible?

Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to customize the checkout form? I mean if I could some extra fields to the form? At the moment the form only has first/last name, phone, email and notes fields. I’d like to add few extra (required) fields just to make sure I get all the information I need from the bookers.
I was browsing the class-book-a-place.php file and found that the form is there starting from line 1312. If I add new fields to the form, do I need to add something else to some other part of the file? To make sure that the data gathered from the new fields is saved and can be seen in the admin? And added to the sent emails?
