• Hi Guys,

I am new to wordpress, and I’m trying to get my head wrapped around it coming over from Joomla and Drupal. I need the basics for creating the custom content for display. For example, how would I create a “widget” on the front page that would show only post written under a certain category but also by a certain (or multiple specified) users/editors.

I’ve searched the widgets but nothing is coming up as close. Is this a functionality built into wordpress or is is a custom widget thing?

    -Ben

  • Widgets are not for doiong anything with content – their “full name” is sidebar widgets.

Some plugins might do partially what you want: e.g. Advanced Category Excluder – you can define which categories to display on homepage and other locations.

However, I don’t know of anything that would do the category exclusion AND posts by an author (or more).

For that, you may want to use some custom Loop and/or the query_posts template tag.
