custom content in sidebar related to post

  • I am trying to build a website where custom content will be displayed in a sidebar. The content displayed in the side bar is driven by the post that is displayed in the main content section.

    For example, the topics of the posts may be travel articles about cities. In the sidebar links to guidebooks about the city are displayed.

    I know this can be achieved in Drupal using Panels and Blocks. Can this be done in WordPress without writing large amounts of custom code?
