• So I told a client about WordPress and she really liked the idea.
She told me she wanted to use “https://sketchdemo.wordpress.com/” because it looks good.

Turns out that I can’t make that self hosted site look like that cause I don’t have access to
https://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/ in my side bar in my admin panel.
I feel I’ve been misled by a pretty looking WordPress live demo site.

I was told I could use Jetpack, but Jetpack requires me to log in to WordPress.com, which I feel kind of (completely) misses the point of me using a self hosted WordPress site, because i still need to sign up on wordpress.com.
Are there any alternative plug-ins that don’t allow me to connect with wordpress.com or alternative (but similar) themes that don’t require this mystical custom content type that I don’t have?

I’m just a bit sad, because all these free themes look gorgeous, but there’s always a catch for some reason.

  • LOTS of nice themes here:

    https://www.ads-software.com/themes/

Those won’t require access to WordPress.COM.

won’t they just require to www.ads-software.com then though?

BTW, the reason WordPress.COM themes require JetPack is because WordPress.COM has those custom post types built in to WP on that site. Self-hosted version of WP does not have those – JetPack is the only way to add that. Setting up a WordPress.COM account is simple and you can enable only the parts of JetPack that you want to use. Shouldn’t really be a problem – many people do it.

    Not sure what you mean?
