Custom Email Templates Not Working

We are trying to get the original email template from the FAQ’s page to show, with our own custom text.

But no matter what we change, it’s showing a email template with wording that we cannot change.

At present Sensei comes the following email templates

• No Progress Reminder – 28 days
• It has been a month 4 weeks ago
• No Progress Reminder – 3 days
• Where have you been? 4 weeks ago
• No Progress Reminder – 7 days
• We missed you this week 4 weeks ago
• Quiz Graded
• Welcome to Course

Emails sent to Teachers

• Course Assigned
• Course Completed
• Course Created
• Course Started
• Lesson Completed
• Message Reply Received
• Quiz Submitted
• Student Sent Message

We are using the latest version of Sensei LMS.

The emails we use primarily are the “Quiz graded” ones, and they used to display as per the example in this link https://senseilms.com/documentation/email-notifications/

But since updating, Sensei LMS is now using the “Theme editor (beta)” and we can’t change the text in the emails going to our students.

So you are no longer seeing the option to Edit the template, as pictured in the screenshot in the help article: https://senseilms.com/documentation/email-notifications/#editing-email-templates

I just tested on my site using Sensei LMS 4.15.1 (Free Version) and still saw the option to Edit the Quiz Graded template. I go to

Sensei LMS > Settings > Emails

Apologies for the delay, we had to make sure it wasn’t a theme error.

After much testing, please see data below.

Our site used to use Sensei LMS v3.1, and the “Editor” wasn’t showing under “Appearance”.

However, once we updated to Sensei V4.16, it’s now showing in the Appearance menu, and we can’t disable it. Additionally, all of the custom email template designs aren’t being pulled in to the site. How do we disable the wp-admin/site-editor.php call? We used the
define( ‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true );
As well, but to no avail.

When we reverted the site plugin version to 3.1 the “Editor” disappears.

We made many changes to the core functionalities since version 3.1 – we expect users not being able to find some instances when navigating the backend as things have been reshuffles a little.

That said:

The new email functionality doesn’t allow overriding via PHP files – see this documentation page:

https://senseilms.com/documentation/theming/

Customization is handled directly in the editor now, so you would need to make your updates there.

I don’t think there would be any issues with downgrading to an older version of Sensei (4.11.2 was the one before we introduced new emails), but I would still recommend you test it on a staging site first to be safe.
