This is probably a WordPress for Dummies question, but do you think your plugin is compatible with the Custom Field Suite plugin? It seems like the best option for me to add a publication date to your plug in. My theme has very good support for sorting page results by custom fields. But it would be nice to be able to display it on Book Review page. I’d have to dig in to actually understanding PHP, so I was hoping you could tell me if it was a good idea to go down that road.

Compliments on the plug in, by the way. I’ve searched through a lot of book themes and directory plug ins. And this one does what I want it to do. The others are always missing something important.

It’s absolutely compatible (well, probably, I don’t know that plugin, specifically, but if it works the way I assume it does, it would be fine)…HOWEVER! You’ll need to deal with the display components (e.g. actually putting the book publication date on the book review page on the front-end) and, yes, that would require plugin development (building your own plugin and hooking into existing actions to display that information with the content) or theme development (pulling in that meta data and displaying it on the page).

I’m working on an overhaul to the plugin now (not sure when I’ll be done, hopefully in the next month or so) and publication date came up. It’s unlikely to be included in this update but one of my goals is to try to make it so it’s easier for relative noobs to add their own custom fields that can be used with book reviews.

Thanks. Since an additional plugin would be involved for display I think I’ll wait until the next release to see if I can get display that way. I think I will stick with using the other plugin for sorting. Thank you!

I’d love to see this functionality more sooner than later.

With that in mind, would a small donation help expedite this? I’m thinking that if several other people contribute financially to a feature, it can help spur development.

I have exactly 2 hours a week that I can spend on WordPress-related projects, including this plugin. I have multiple other plugins I maintain and I’m helping organize WordCamp Salt Lake City. The issue is not one of funding, it’s of time. It’d be much more likely for additional developers who were willing and able to collaborate by submitting pull requests to complete and/or add features than monetary donations, although I definitely appreciate the offer. ??
