Custom fields and exporting events data
-
Hi All
I’ve been trying to deal with a custom fields/rss feed issue for a long time now but, search as I may, I can’t find a solution. Would be very grateful for any assistance anyone can provide.
I have a site which showcases, among other things, events. Using TDO Mini Forms, users can add events from the front of the website. The entry form includes a custom field for event date. Having that custom field allows me to sort the events by reference to event date, rather than post date; in other words, using the custom field data, I can list the events in chrono-event-date order.
The problem I’m facing is that I want to make the events data available to others for posting to their own sites. As many will appreciate, the RSS feed data for the events category does not include the custom field data. I know I could export the entire events category through the WordPress export facility, but that’s a manual process and I’m looking for an auto-updating solution, if possible using RSS/Atom. I currently share news posts between sites using FeedWordPress, which can take the original source feed and parse it into posts on the second site. While I could do this for the events feed, it wouldn’t have the custom field data, and hence the resulting posts couldn’t be ordered properly by reference to event date.
Would anyone happen to know of any solution to this issue please? I’d gladly donate something if someone were able to provide a solution.
Thanks in advance
Richard
