Custom fields in own form

I’m adding subs using my own form as outlined in the knowledgebase: https://support.mailpoet.com/knowledgebase/plugin-form-integrate/
But in addition to the default email, first/last names I want to store a cellphone number – easy in the form builder included with the plugin. But how do I process this extra field using my own form as in the knowledgebase article?
