Every time I add a new translation from an existing post it opens the new post without populating the fields with the same values that exist in the origin post.

The fields only get populated after save the post empty and then edit it again, unlike for example taxonomies or featured image that pop up right after post creation.

This happens either with custom fields synchronization option checked, either with <custom-fields> settings at wpml-config.xml file which I’m currently using.

    Hi!

Are you using a plugin to manage your custom fields? Some plugins don’t read custom fields for a *new post* and so don’t populate their interface, even if custom fields exist.

Without any plugin, my own custom fields are correctly pre-populated in the WordPress custom fields metabox.

Yes I’m using Types plugin and I’ve just noticed that it’s working for two other fields I’ve added not from Types, which confirms your idea.

I guess I don’t have a turn around for this different than manually code the custom fields creation.

It seems to be just a matter of priority. Try the new development version (1.6.0.5) https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/polylang.zip
